Optimising your health before any procedure will improve your chances of recovery and reduce length of stay in hospital as well a reducing potential complications. In order to do this you should be as active as possible, taking regular exercise which makes you slightly out of breath for at least 30 minutes a day.
This should be coupled with strengthening exercises and range-of-motion exercises where appropriate.
You should stop smoking if necessary, limit alcohol and attempt to maintain a healthy weight.
